Bondi to Bronte

Apparently the walk between Bondi and Bronte beaches, in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs, is supposed to be the most famous walk in Sydney and one of the best in the world, we were unawares of this fact until after our walk. It’s a 6km walk one way so we did the return journey as we are on a budget and public transport is expensive!

Also Bondi and Bronte and the beaches in between are also a place to be see and been seen, we saw no one, and good thing as it would just have ruined the walk!

We had been staying in Bondi with a friend for a couple of days, so we had enjoyed the delights of Bondi, including the Bondi Icebergs Club for beers overlooking the beach and also discovering the 50 cent Macca’s Ice Cream, Bargain!

It was a beautiful day as we set off one the walk looking forward to the scenery, and it did not disappoint from the moment we headed south from Bondi we were greeted with sunny coastal views, in which we watched the South Pacific Ocean roll its waves into the many coves and beaches we walked by. Beautiful Sandstone cliffs surrounded us and the headlands as we walked round each one to be greeted by a new view. About halfway through in the distance a storm seemed to threaten, it did not dampen our spirits and it made for a dramatic backdrop for one of the beaches.

What we discovered as we walked was that there was a bit of beach and beach life for everyone in this 6km stretch of heaven. There was a good path for runners, there were spots on the rocks for dogs and there owners, there was surf for the beginner and the experienced, there were secluded beaches for the topless sunbathers (and not so secluded for the more adventurous ones!) and there was sand for everyone.

There were also a couple of Sea pools, which I love; I think they are a great idea and hail back to a bygone era of Seaside recreation. Today there are a great addition to beach life offering access to the ocean without the current and swell and a reduction in the risk of Sharks! Our walk we decided ended at the second sea pool we came to and we promptly went to cool off with a swim off in the Bronte sea Pool.

This walk was a truly fantastic one, that I highly recommend, its not often you are able to walk along such a picturesque yet rugged coastline, on a sunny day in the middle of a major city!
