Now I am not going to lie as we were leaving Laos and preparing to cross the border into Vietnam I was getting really excited, this was one of the countries that I had always wanted to visit for many reasons and was one of the countries at the top of my list when we were originally planning our journey.
With the excitement came a rush of images and songs that over the years have been associated with Vietnam, especially the war and especially through films and music. My mind was awash of quotes from “being loved long time” to “this is my rifle”! This is probably NOT the best impression Vietnam wants to give to the world but over the years this is the mark Hollywood rightly or wrongly has left the world about Vietnam. Musically things are a little different with bands and artist’s from the 60’s and 70’s offering an anti-war sentiment to that of the war and America’s involvement.
Being an avid film lover and also a big fan of music from the 60’s and 70’s, I am a big fan of the soundtracks that supported the films of the 80’s and 90’s and also from the Anti-war movement at the time. Just like when we were kids making mix tapes for friends or loved ones, this particular mix tape I have been working on and perfecting for some years, and this time in advance of traveling through Vietnam I offer the The Best Nam Soundtrack Ever acre of Moi!
Don’t worry I am sure all my stereotypes and generalizations will soon be corrected, but just before they are indulge me! Enjoy
